Platycnemis pennipes (white-legged damselfly)

Location: North-Western Italy

Geography: Small, slow stream

    White-legged Damselfly, Blue Featherleg

    Distribution

    Occurs through much of Eurasia, from the Atlantic Coast to Siberia. It is absent from Spain, Portugal and Northern Scandinavia.

    Identification

    A small damselfly. Males are pale blue with broad, flattened, white-edged tibia, black markings, brown antehumeral stripes, brown pterostigma and a wide head. Females are a light, yellowish green colour with black markings and similar features to the male.
